Nicola Pilkington

Born and bred in the boiling-pot Afropolitan of Johannesburg, Nicola is a multidirectional artist, researcher, and educator with a core interest in caring collaborations in process-led projects.

They have proudly contributed to award-winning projects for stage, screen, and in-between, including: Koleka Putuma’s No Easter Sunday for Queers (Market Theatre 2019); Virtual Blackout (vNAF and Fak’ugesi 2020); Africa Season 2020 (Théâtre National de Bretagne 2021); and Unfathomable by Athena Mazarakis and Alex Halligey (UJ Arts and Culture and 2022). Their close collaborators include Mwenya Kabwe, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Oupa Sibeko, Shameelah Khan, and Geoffrey Diver.

Currently, Nicola lectures at UCT at the Centre for Theatre, Dance, & Performance Studies and is working toward Doctoral candidacy, researching intermedial performance.
